Students with face paint and crazy hair are just a few of the sights that you saw during this year's Spirit Week.  Students in every grade showed their school spirit by participating in the " dress-up days" to earn points for their class. The days were: Bummin it Day, Twin Day, Crazy Hair Day, Hawaiian Day, and School Colors Day.
The students also participated in small contests like a guessing of the singer of a song, or a lollipop tree.  New this year, students paid for strips of duct tape to attach assistant principal, Dr. Smith, to the gym wall for the pep rally.  Then, let us not forget the most famous contest of all: the Penny Wars.   These are where students will bring in loose change, and put them in selected buckets.  There was one bucket for each class, and the classes tried to collect as many pennies as possible.  For example, each penny counted as one point, and each nickel counted as five points, each dime worth ten points, and so on.  The more pennies that a class has, the better, but for instance, if they have a nickel, since it is worth five points, it sort of "cancels out" five of the pennies.  The worst that one class can do to another however, is put in dollar bills, because a one-dollar bill is worth 100 points.  Which is if you want to do the math, takes away 100 pennies.
On Friday afternoon, during the last period of school, Dickinson had its annual Homecoming Pep Rally.  This is the time where the students let loose, yelling and screaming.  This is also where the 2001 Homecoming Court was announced and presented to the school. The seniors of the court were:  Addi Tetreault, Paul Nam, Ryan  Blackston, Gerald Yelverton, Crystal Marvian, Colleen Spidaro, Shelly Pow

Now that we are back in school, some students look back at summer and wish it had never ended. Everyone misses different things about summer. A lot of kids miss cooling off on hot, humid days. A ninth grader, Catherine Hammond, said, "I really miss going to my pool every day." Avery outgoing Jay Milnamow said he misses "chilling with girls at the beach." Looking back at their summers, Amanda Eaton and Megan Dunn both said, "I miss going to the beach." Of course, going to the pool or the beach is not the only fun thing to do during the summer. With a lot of enthusiasm, Carrie Bodwell said, "SLEEPING!" Everyone probably misses sleeping in during the summer, and staying up late, too. The most interesting comment comes from Dan Spencer. He said, "I miss nothing." But Kirstin Sowers' statement, "I miss not having school," seems to sum up that everyone is already looking forward to next summer.
