During the
Dickinson soccer team's interview, the
team members kept repeating how much fun
they have without being competitive.
"No matter what, we will laugh and
have fun," Senior Frank Bafundo
said.
The team did not believe they were
disciplined well this year; and
therefore, they did not think they were
very competitive. According to the team,
the seniors called the shots the first
half of the season and the team suffered.
But then, they began to focus and
listened to their coach, and it showed.
Their record was five wins and nine
losses.
At one of the practices, the players were
quite lax, but they seemed to be having a
good time. Many of the players
expressed that they had high hopes
for this season. "We were looking
forward to a good year, and it didn't
turn out that way," said Junior Phil
Bafundo. Their coach, John Baybutt, said
the athletes had promise, but they didn't
always play to their potentials.
"[One member of the team was called]
a Mongo, meaning he just kicks the ball
as hard as he can without knowing where
it is going," said Senior Dan
Ventura. But after building up the
freshmen this year, "Next year's
team will have a good chance at winning
the conference," noted Baybutt.
Overall, the soccer team said they did
not have a successful season record-wise,
but once they learned to work as a team
and to get over personal conflicts,
things got much better. As Seniors Mike
Place and Aaron Williams joked,
"We're a good young team and we look
forward to improvement next year."
